SAN DIEGO—Eddie Gallagher, the controversial former SEAL chief who was acquitted of war crimes, is coming to the aid of a Navy doctor who faces an upcoming hearing over his role in the 2022 death of a SEAL trainee.

Gallagher is raising money through his Pipe Hitter Foundation for Dr. Erik Ramey, who faces a board of inquiry on Nov. 18 that could cost him his medical license.

Ramey, who headed the medical department at Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training in Coronado, California, was accused of dereliction of duty for negligently failing to provide medical support and negligent command supervision, resulting in “death and grievous bodily harm.” SEAL Capt. Brad Geary, the former commander of the Naval Special Warfare Basic Training Command, will appear Nov. 12 for a hearing on similar charges.
