Report: Deaths of two SEALs in shipboarding mishap were preventable
Investigation finds deaths of Christopher Chambers and Nathan Ingram were preventable

A long-awaited military investigation found that the deaths of two SEALs in a shipboarding accident earlier this year off the coast of Somalia were preventable.
The report released Friday found that Christopher Chambers and Nathan Ingram drowned on Jan. 11 because they were weighed down by their gear and unable to float.
Chambers, 37, lost his grip and fell into the water while attempting to board a Houthi dhow in 6- to 8-foot seas. Ingram, 27, jumped in to save him, “demonstrating heroism and bearing witness to the best of the SEAL Ethos,” the report stated. Both men sank beneath the waves of the Arabian Sea within 47 seconds.
Other SEALs and Coast Guard who successfully boarded the dhow found suspected Iranian-made missile components, including a warhead. Four mariners aboard the vessel were charged in federal court in Virginia
