Q&A: Former SEAL Dan Barkhuff, founder Veterans for Responsible Leadership.
"Trump's problem is he is just totally anathema to any sort of military value," says the former SEAL officer.
In 2017, former SEAL Lt. Dan Barkhuff started a Facebook group with former Navy colleagues who were outraged over Donald Trump’s dishonesty. The group grew quickly. Some friends suggested he form a political action committee, and Veterans for Responsible Leadership was born. “We're a one-issue organization,” Barkhuff says. “That issue is Donald Trump.”
Barkhuff graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2001. The following year, he completed Basic Under Demolition/SEAL Training and served in SEALs Teams Four and Eight and Detachment South, deploying to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Africa. Barkhuff left the Navy in 2009 and enrolled in Harvard Medical School. Today, he practices emergency medicine at the University of Vermont.
