Kash Patel, Donald Trump’s pick for FBI director, played a little-noticed role in helping defend a SEAL captain who successfully fought off the Navy’s efforts to hold him accountable for the death of a SEAL trainee.
The Navy on Friday dismissed Captain Brad Geary’s upcoming administrative hearing for his role in the death of Kyle Mullen, a 24-year-old from New Jersey. Mullen died shortly after completing Hell Week in February 2022 from bacterial pneumonia. Geary commanded the Naval Special Warfare Basic Training Command at the time.
Geary said Patel’s charitable foundation helped fund his initial legal defense. “We are forever grateful to Kash Patel for his friendship and advice, and the ‘Fight With Kash’ Foundation for their support from the beginning,” Geary said in a LinkedIn post. “We wouldn't have made it one week into this fight without him.”
