Dr. Samantha Crompvoets is a sociologist who was asked in 2015 to conduct a cultural review of Australia’s Special Operations Command.
What she learned from insiders was shocking and disturbing: members of the Australian Special Forces had been committing war crimes for years while on deployment in Afghanistan, and nothing was being done about it.
Her findings changed Australian military history.
Dr. Crompvoets’ study led to what became known as the Brereton Report, an official military investigation that found 39 civilians and prisoners were murdered by or at the direction of members of the Australian special forces.
She joined me from Byron Bay, Australia.
